Will Montgomery County Get Anymore Snow?

Another storm is headed to our area early next week, but forecasts suggests that snow is just a small chance.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD — Don't look now, but we may have a chance for some snow early next week in what would almost certainly be the last gasp for winter in Montgomery County, should it materialize. However, right now it appears to be a small chance, so don't get your hopes up.

As storm after storm dumps snow on New England, the D.C. area remains with less than 4 inches for snow for the season, more than 11 inches below normal. Computer models are showing the possibility of a snowstorm on March 20, although right now things are trending toward rain, according to a report from the Washington Post's Capital Weather Gang.

Initially, CWG gave us a 20 percent chance of at least an inch of snow next week, but even that chance is dropping with the newer models, they say.

"Both the American and European models now forecast Tuesday's storm passing just north of Washington, which would draw up southerly winds, resulting in rain rather than snow," they write.

Amazingly, however, it might turn into the fourth March nor'easter to pound New England with snow this year.

Earlier simulations showed the storm would go farther south and might draw cold air from the north to result in snow in the D.C. area. But right now, that "seems pretty unlikely."

So for D.C. residents, you'll most likely get to enjoy all the downsides of the frigid weather over the next week as spring delays visiting us, without any of the white stuff.
