5 Things You Need to Know Today: Sept. 21, 2011

Here are five things you need to know as you start your Wednesday.

Happy Wednesday, Silver Spring! Here are five things to know today, to help you keep up-to-date about what’s going on in the community:

1. Throughout the day you can expect scattered showers and thunderstorms, according to the National Weather Service. Temperatures may rise near 76 degrees. Into the evening, showers are likely to continue, with temperatures dropping to about 67.

2. Nothing beats a rainy day like great tasting food that's free! Whole Foods is hosting a food tasting from noon to 2 p.m. You can sample a variety of cheeses, fresh seafood, and salad from the deli.

3. Looking for cheap gas? Visit gas buddy and type in your Zip Code. It will populate stations nearest you, with reasonable gas prices in your neighborhood.

4. The Silver Spring Regional Center needs a volunteer to serve as a Google map creator. This person would be responsible for creating a series of maps for specific purposes. Some of the maps would include: Ethiopian storefront establishments, car repair shops in Fenton Village, and faith communities in Silver Spring. For more information or to apply, send an e-mail to Reemberto Rodriguez, the regional director, with "volunteer" in the subject line.
