5 Things You Need to Know Today: Sept. 8, 2011

Happy Thursday, Silver Spring! Here are five things you need to know as you start your day.

Good Morning! What five things do you need to know to stay up-to-date about what’s going on in the community? Patch has you covered this Thursday:

1. The heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected to continue today, according to the National Weather Service. A high of 80 degrees is in the forecast. State agencies are urging motorists to use caution during the morning drive.

2. If you missed it, Silver Spring Patch featured a who helped subdue the fires at the Pentagon on 9/11 after American Airlines Flight 77 crashed into the building. Lt. Antonio Bencosme worked 15 hours alongside other local firefighters to control the flames.

3. Rainy weather calls for fun inside with the kids! It's Friends and Family Night from 5-9 p.m. at Color Me Mine in Silver Spring. You can have up to four painters per table. The studio fee is $15 per table. 

4. Interested in learning more about breast-feeding? The  group will be holding a meeting at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, 818 University Blvd West. This month's topic is on the advantages of breast-feeding. Women interested in breast-feeding are encouraged to attend. The meeting starts at 10:30 a.m.
