MARYLAND — Expect many ghosts, goblins and witches in Maryland trick or treating on Tuesday to be bundled up in sweaters and winter coats, as a blast of the coldest air so far this season pushes last week's warm front out to sea.

"After many cities experienced record-challenging warmth last week, a major flip in the pattern is expected this week," said AccuWeather Meteorologist Brandon Buckingham. "High temperatures can be more than 30 degrees lower than last week across a wide swath of the Northeast."

Temperatures soared up into the 80s from Washington, D.C. to Boston on Saturday, breaking records along the East Coast. In some places, the temperatures were 20 degrees higher than the average for late October.

But Sunday's wet weather brought colder temperatures to much of the Northeast and the rain is expected to continue through Monday, according to Accuweather's forecast.

"In addition to the surge of cold air, an incoming Alberta Clipper storm is expected to bring the first snowflakes of the season for many locations across the interior Northeast between Halloween and Wednesday," said Buckingham.

Temperatures will be in the 40s Tuesday evening for the big cities along I-95 in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast, according to Accuweather's forecast. Gusts of icy air will make it feel 10 degrees colder than the actual temperature.

In the Washington, D.C. area, Tuesday will be the chilliest day since March, according to the Capital Weather Gang. In spite of the partly sunny skies, expect highs across the region reaching only the low 50s during the day and then dropping to the 40s in the evening.

The first day of November on Wednesday will feel more lake the last day of December, according to the Capital Weather Gang. High temperatures will reach 45 to 50, with gusty winds from the northwest at 10 to 2o mph. Expect the thermometer to drop down into upper 20s or colder overnight.
