Burtonsville Bash Bids Bedding Barn Bye-Bye
"Burtonsville Bash at the Barn" Takes Place Saturday, June 28th 3-7pm

If you're from Montgomery County, you know the place. Commanding the intersection of Routes 108 and 29, the huge red beacon means you're passing through Burtonsville. It's called Mattress & More Liquidators, but everyone knows it as the Burtonsville Bedding Barn. And it's closing, for good.

But not without a proper goodbye. In fact, with a "Bash at the Barn" - a huge, silly, heartwarming celebration of a local icon and its equally iconic mascot, Burt the Inflatable Mattress Man. Live music, wacky games, food trucks, giveaways and final "final clearance" sale are planned.
The Bash at the Barn is co-hosted by Dave Golden and Alex Tsironis. Golden, the unofficial "Mayor of Burtonsville" is a community activist whose work includes restoration of the Burton family cemetery, brokering relationships that led to Burtonsville Crossing's development, and creation of the 4,000 member "Burtonsville 2.0" Facebook group that unites community members. Tsironis is an up-and-coming Montgomery County blogger and food critic.

If you're thinking this is a hoax--yet another "final" liquidation--it's not. Mattress & More Liquidators and the 7-11 next-door are scheduled to be demolished to make way for a new Wawa. 7-11 closed its doors last month.
The Burtonsville Bash festivities are family friendly. Local band Affirmative No will perform original songs including a special event theme song. Catalyst Hot Dogs, Ruben’s, and Kona Ice food trucks will be on site.

Zany contests, including a barn painting, fitted sheet folding, and best farm animal noises, promise spirited, barnyard-inspired fun. Glenmont Mayor and publisher of the wildly popular Montgonionsatire website, Glenn Fellman, will serve as head judge.
Attendees will also enjoy raffles, a silent auction, and various giveaways sponsored by Mattress and More Liquidators, Meadows Farms, Seasonal Roots, and other local businesses.
The Bash at the Barn bids farewell to a beloved Burtonsville landmark but also celebrates the sleepy town's bright future as new development makes it one of Montgomery County's hottest up-and-coming communities.
The Burtonsville Bash at the Barn is free and takes place Saturday, June 28th 3-7pm, at 15595 Old Columbia Pike, Burtonsville, MD.
