I-495 Resurfacing Project Begins In Silver Spring Next Week

Crews will begin resurfacing I-495 between MD 97 (Georgia Avenue) and MD 185 (Connecticut Avenue) on Tuesday at 9 p.m., so expect closures.

SILVER SPRING, MD — Crews will work to resurface the section of I-495 between MD 97 (Georgia Avenue) and MD 185 (Connecticut Avenue) on Tuesday beginning at 9 p.m., so single or multiple lane closures are likely, the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration said.

Crews will work through the night until 5 a.m., and will repeat that cycle Sunday through Friday until the project is complete. There may be other lane closures during the day — from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. — related to the project, MDOT said.

This resurfacing is part of the $9.1 million Seminary Road Bridge replacement project, which MDOT said should be done sometime this fall.

"MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our customers," the MDOT announcement says. "Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving and look for reduced speed limits, as well as other driving pattern changes. Please drive like you work here and slow down in construction zones."
