The highly informative and graphics-brimming blog Ghosts of DC highlighted Silver Spring this week with an explanation of how Silver Spring got its name.

Ghosts of DC reports that there really was a spring once, and it really was silver...well, silver-ish, thanks to flecks of mica. It was near what is today Georgia Avenue and the Maryland-Washington, DC, line.
