Man Accused Of Trying To Rob Silver Spring Gas Station At Gunpoint

SILVER SPRING, MD — Montgomery County police are searching for a man they say tried to rob a Silver Spring gas station at gunpoint last month.

The attempted armed robbery occurred on Sept. 21 at 7-Eleven in the 8100 block of Fenton Street. According to police, the suspect entered the store around 9 p.m. and attempted to purchase two cigars, but the clerk refused to sell to him after he failed to provide proper identification.

Police said the man then loitered inside the store and waited for other customers to leave before walking behind the counter to approach the clerk. According to police, he reached into his waistband, implying he had a weapon and attempted to steal merchandise.

Police said the clerk told authorities they saw the handle of a gun in the suspect’s waistband.

After his unsuccessful attempts at stealing merchandise, the suspect left the store, police said.

The suspect is described as a Black male, who was about 17 to 25 years old and was 5-feet 6-inches to 5-feet 9-inches tall. He had a slim build, medium complexion, a mustache/goatee and weighed about 140 to 160 pounds. He wore a black beanie-style cap, black hoodie, black t-shirt, black jeans and black sneakers.
