Man Arrested After Firing A Gun As Cops Drove By: MoCo Police

Michael Brown, ​36, was arrested Wednesday and charged with discharging a gun in an urban area.

SILVER SPRING, MD — A Suitland man is facing charges stemming from a November shooting in Silver Spring, Montgomery County police announced Friday.

Michael Brown, 36, was arrested Wednesday and charged with discharging a gun in an urban area in connection with the Nov. 3 incident.

According to police, the shooting happened shortly before 4 a.m. in a parking lot located at 8200 Georgia Avenue in Silver Spring. Police said Brown was parked at the location next to another car when he observed Montgomery County officers responding to a call for service with their lights and sirens activated.

Police said Brown got out of the vehicle and shot a gun into the air four times. Brown then got back in his car and left the scene, according to authorities.

Officers heard the sound of gunshots and responded to the location, where they recovered shell casings, police said. After reviewing surveillance footage in the area, police obtained a description of the suspect.

Through the course of the investigation, detectives identified the suspect as Brown, who is prohibited from owning and possessing a firearm.

Brown was arrested Wednesday at his home in Suitland. As police took him into custody, officers found a loaded and unregistered handgun in his backpack.

Brown was taken to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit, where he is being held without bond.
