Man Charged With Killing Colleague At Former Walter Reed Site

A Silver Spring man is accused of fatally shooting a colleague at the former Walter Reed Army Medical Center, police said.

WASHINGTON, DC — A shuttle bus driver from Silver Spring is charged with second-degree murder while armed for allegedly fatally shooting his colleague Friday.

Wright Koonce, 59, is accused of the shooting that occurred at about 8 a.m. Friday at the former Walter Reed Army Medical Center in the 6900 block of Georgia Ave. NW.

The decedent has been identified as Brian Andrew Gibson, 45, of Northwest DC. Gibson was pronounced dead on the scene, police said.

Both Koonce and Gibson worked as shuttle bus drivers for G&M Limo Service, police said. The two men reportedly got into an argument about shuttling construction workers to the former Walter Reed site while at work that morning.

The two men both called a co-worker to discuss the argument. Koonce called the co-worker at about 6 a.m. and allegedly said Gibson "was trying to be his boss and he didn't like it," WTOP reports.

The fight prompted Gibson to allegedly punch Koonce so hard that his teeth feel out, according to court documents.

Koonce then allegedly shot Gibson with a .38-caliber revolver while Gibson was running away. Koonce told police he shot Gibson out of self-defense while Gibson "fled with his back to him" because "he did not know what the decedent was going to do," court documents said.

A D.C. Superior Court judge ordered that Koonce be detained until a preliminary hearing Jan. 4.
