Maryland Task Force 1 Standby for FEMA
The task force is on "Alert Status" to assist with Hurricane Irene.
As Hurricane Irene approaches, its unpredictability has federal officials preparing for the worst.
Maryland Task Force 1 and Virginia Task Force 1 were recently placed on "Alert Status" in the event the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) needs assistance.
They have not been activated.

The task force in Maryland is a combination of emergency personnel, said Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Assistant Chief Scott Graham.
It includes about 80 trained responders in various fields, including canines, communication specialists, technical rescue personnel, physicians and paramedics. The team will have access to 15 trucks carrying medical supplies and logistical equipment, along with search and rescue equipment.
