Multiple Injuries After Major Crash Involving Bus In Silver Spring

There were at least three trauma patients and one person was trapped and pinned in a crash with a Metro bus, according to authorities.

SILVER SPRING, MD — Several people were severely injured when a Metro bus was involved in a crash Monday afternoon in Silver Spring, according to authorities.

The accident happened about 3 p.m. at Georgia Avenue and East-West Highway, according to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer.

There were at least three trauma patients and one person was trapped and pinned, Piringer tweeted, with several people taken to receive medical attention. Images of the scene posted to Twitter showed what appeared to be a bus with a damaged bumper in front of a minivan partially atop a police car.

Georgia Avenue was closed between East-West Highway and Sligo Avenue, the Montgomery County Office of Emergency Management and Homeland Security tweeted about 4 p.m., advising drivers to seek an alternate route. Two northbound lanes had reopened by 4:40 p.m.
