Police Investigate Two Armed Carjackings In Three-Hour Period

Police are investigating two armed carjackings they say occurred within a three-hour period this month in downtown Silver Spring.

SILVER SPRING, MD — Montgomery County police say they are investigating two armed carjackings that occurred within a three-hour period in downtown Silver Spring on Sept. 19.

The first incident was reported around 6:53 p.m.

Police said a man was making deliveries for Amazon in the 8600 block of Cedar St. when he was confronted by two black men wearing hooded sweatshirts and masks.

One suspect took the victim's silver Chevrolet Malibu, according to police, while the other fled in a separate gray vehicle.

The Chevrolet was later recovered in Washington, D.C. No one was in the car at the time, authorities said.

The second incident happened around 9:43 p.m. in the 8700 block of Colesville Rd.

The victim's vehicle was unlocked, unattended, and running when it was stolen by two suspects, police said.

The male victim told authorities that he saw a black man wearing a red jacket and a black man wearing a black hooded sweatshirt near the car and confronted them.

One of the suspects brandished a handgun and threatened the victim before the pair drove off, police said.

The vehicle was recovered in Washington, D.C. the following day.
