Police Search For Possible Witness In Columbia Pike Crash

Police are searching for a driver who may have witnessed a crash that killed an elderly woman walking on Columbia Pike.

SILVER SPRING, MD — Police are searching for a driver who they believe witnessed a crash that killed an elderly woman walking on Columbia Pike on Nov. 9.

Elaine Rowena Allen, 71, of an unconfirmed address, was hit at about 6:40 p.m. on Columbia Pike (Route 29) at Hillwood Drive N0v. 9. First responders located Allen dead in the roadway, police said.

Investigation reveals that a Washington, DC man was driving a white, 2010 Ford E250 van south on Columbia Pike. For reasons still under investigation, the van collided with Allen. The driver remained at the scene, police said.

Police believe a driver in a grey or silver colored sedan may have witnessed the collision. The driver was traveling in front of the man's van on Columbia Pike when the man collided with Allen, police said.

Investigators are asking that the owner or driver of that sedan to contact the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 240-773-6620.
