Silver Spring College Student Performs In 'Heathers The Musical'

A student from Silver Spring is performing in McDaniel College's upcoming production of "Heathers The Musical."

SILVER SPRING, MD — Nina Porter, McDaniel College student from Silver Spring, is performing in "Heathers The Musical," which is based on the 1980s cult film classic.

Danielle Carter of Rockville plays "Veronica Sawyer," a brainy, beautiful teenage misfit who becomes a member of the Heathers, a powerful and ruthless clique that rules Westerberg High. Veronica falls for a mysterious new student named "Jason Dean," and that's when the trouble begins.

Performances of "Heathers The Musical" will be presented March 2-4, at 7:30 p.m., with a March 2 matinee performance at 2 p.m., at WMC Alumni Hall at McDaniel College, 2 College Hill in Westminster, Maryland.

Tickets are $12 for adults and $10 for students, seniors (over 60), active military members and veterans, as well as those with a McDaniel College ID. For tickets or more information, call 410-857-2448. Note: The show contains adult material that may not be appropriate for younger audiences.

Lynn Sharp Spears, a seasoned professional performer, director, teacher and designer, is the guest director of "Heathers The Musical," which was written by Kevin Murphy and Laurence O'Keefe. Alison Shafer is the show's musical director and Julie Herber, senior adjunct lecturer in theatre arts, is choreographer.

"The sound this ensemble produces rivals many professional groups with whom I've worked," Spears said, in a release. "I have no doubt that the cast will transport you into the world of 'Heathers,' how it feels to be 17, and will take your breath away!"
