Silver Spring College Students Honored For Academic Achievements

Patch highlights the honors received by Silver Spring students from their college or university.

SILVER SPRING, MD — To shine a light on the academic achievements of college students from the Silver Spring area, Patch shares information provided by the students' families and Merit News.

Audrey Burnett Krimm of Silver Spring was among 626 graduates who received degrees from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln during a combined graduate and undergraduate commencement ceremony Aug. 13 at Pinnacle Bank Arena. Krimm earned a master of science from the Office of Graduate Studies.

Natalie Daly of Silver Spring received first honors for the spring 2022 dean's list at Clark University in Worcester, Massachusetts. Students must have a GPA of 3.8 or above for first honors.

The following students were named to the dean's list for the spring 2022 semester at Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts:

  • Noah Chopra-Khan of Silver Spring, class of 2022
  • Sam McQuaid of Silver Spring, class of 2023
  • Meghan Simpson of Silver Spring, class of 2025
  • Carlie Sylvan of Silver Spring, class of 2025

Dean's list honors at Tufts University requires a semester grade point average of 3.4 or greater.

The following students are named to the dean's list for the spring 2022 semester at Emerson College in Boston, Massachusetts:

  • Edward Beamer of Silver Spring is majoring in journalism and is a member of the Class of 2024.
  • Rifka Handelman of Silver Spring is majoring in interdisciplinary studies and is a member of the Class of 2025.
  • Molly Howard of Silver Spring is majoring in theatre and performance and is a member of the Class of 2025.
  • Taryn Noonan of Silver Spring is majoring in media arts production and is a member of the Class of 2025.
  • James Thomson of Silver Spring is majoring in media arts production and is a member of the Class of 2024.

The requirement to make the dean's list at Emerson is a grade point average of 3.7 or higher for that semester.

Beza Nigatu from Silver Spring was named to the spring 2022 dean's list at New York Institute of Technology in Old Westbury, New York. Nigatu was one of nearly 400 students recognized. To qualify for this academic honor, a student must earn a GPA of at least 3.5 and complete 12 or more credit hours without any incomplete grades.

Quinn Kirk of Silver Spring has enrolled at McDaniel College as a transfer student from Montgomery College in Rockville. Kirk plans to study psychology.

Josephine Koelsch of Silver Spring, class of 2023 IDEAS and Computer Engineering and Design major at Lehigh University, received the DAAD Rise Award. Sponsored by the German Academic Exchange Service, this program offers summer research internships in Germany for undergraduate students from North America, Great Britain and Ireland.

The following students were named to the dean's list for the spring 2022 semester at Ithaca College in Ithaca, New York:

  • Lily Metzger of Silver Spring
  • Liam Shields of Silver Spring
