Silver Spring College Students Honored For Academic Excellence

SILVER SPRING, MD — To shine a light on the accomplished of college students from Silver Spring, Patch shares information provided by the students' families and Merit News.

Michael Thomas of Silver Spring is serving as a production team backstage crew member on the Spring 2023 Albright College Theatre production of "Orlando." Thomas is a graduate of Richard Montgomery High School and is studying communications and psychology at Albright, which is located in Reading, Pennsylvania.

The following students were named to the fall 2022 dean's list at the University of Rhode Island in Kingston, Rhode Island:

• Aaron Adams of Silver Spring
• Allegra Levone of Silver Spring
• Alex Lynn of Silver Spring
• James Madden of Silver Spring

To be included on the Dean's List, full-time students must have completed 12 or more credits for letter grades and achieved at least a 3.30 quality point average.

Aryss Lindsey of Silver Spring has been named to Youngstown State University's president's list for achieving a perfect 4.0 grade point average in the fall semester 2022. Lindsey is a communication studies -interpersonal/organizational track major. To be eligible for the president's list, honorees must be full-time undergraduate students with a 4.0 GPA for least 12 semester hours of classes.

Molly Howard of Silver Spring took part in Emerson Stage's production of "Paris." The show was presented from Jan.26-29 at the Jackie Liebergott Black Box Theater at Emerson College in Boston. Howard is majoring in theatre and performance and is a member of the class of 2025.

Alison Margison of Silver Spring earned dean's list honors for the fall 2022 semester at The University of Tampa in Florida. Margison is majoring in political science bachelor of arts. Students must maintain a GPA of 3.75 or higher to be eligible for the dean's list.

Alexios Rodriguez of Silver Spring was named to the fall 2022 dean's list at Saint Francis University in Loretto, Pennsylvania. To achieve this honor, students must have full-time status and attain a quality point average 3.5 on 12 or more credits during a single semester, with no continuing or incomplete grades.

Maria Menjivarof Silver Spring was named to the fall 2022 dean's list at Eastern Mennonite University in Harrisonburg, Pennsylvania. Menjivar is majoring in Spanish language and Hispanic studies, peacebuilding. To qualify, students must earn a GPA of 3.5 or higher and complete a minimum of 30 credit hours.

The following students were named to the dean's list for fall 2022 at Radford University in Radford, Virginia:

• Declan Thomas Herlihy of Silver Spring
• Jeannie Tene of Silver Spring

To be named to the dean's list, students must have 12 semester hours of coursework graded A-F; earn GPA's of at least 3.4 for courses not graded on a pass-fail basis; obtain no grade lower than "C"; and receive no incomplete grades.

The following students earned dean's list honors for the fall 2022 semester at Hollins University in Roanoke, Virginia:

• Alyssa McLeod of Silver Spring
• Brigitte Bonsu of Silver Spring

To attain this distinction, students must earn at least a 3.5 average on a 4.0 grading scale.

Ava Weeks of Silver Spring was named to the fall 2022 dean's list at Frostburg State University in Frostburg, Maryland. To be eligible for the dean's list, a student must complete a minimum of 12 credit hours and earn a cumulative semester grade point average of at least 3.4 on a 4.0 scale.

The following students participated in the 161st commencement ceremonies at Frostburg State University in December:

• Stephanie Anokwu of Silver Spring received a bachelor of science degree in psychology.

• Hayat Dedefo of Silver Spring received a bachelor of science degree in psychology.

• Steven Desgranges of Silver Spring received a bachelor of science degree in business administration.

• Serena Gordon of Silver Spring received a bachelor of science degree in liberal studies.

• Ryan Hoskinson of Silver Spring received a bachelor of science degree in recreation and parks management.

• Maureen Mutua of Silver Spring received a bachelor of science degree in nursing.

• Jose Rodriguez of Silver Spring received a bachelor of science degree in business administration.

• Elena Serrano of Silver Spring received a bachelor of science degree in mass communication.

• Abel Yared of Silver Spring received a bachelor of science degree in Business Administration.

Katie Leon of Silver Spring earned recent degree from Grove City College on Dec. 6, 2022. Leon earned a bachelor of science degree in biology and general science secondary education certification.

The following students were named to the dean's list for the fall 2022 semester at Grove City College in Grove City, Pennsylvania:

• Lucy Martin of Silver Spring
• Abby Nolte of Silver Spring
• Katie Leon of Silver Spring

Beza Nigatu of Silver Spring was one of nearly 900 students named to the fall 2022 presidential honor list at New York Institute of Technology in Old Westbury, New York. To qualify for the presidential honor list, a student must achieve a minimum semester GPA of 3.7 and complete at least 12 credit hours without any incomplete grades.

Nazzy Berhane from Silver Spring has been named to the fall 2022 dean's list at St. Lawrence University in Canton, New York. Berhane is a member of the class of 2023 and is majoring in public health. Berhane attended Paint Branch High School. To be eligible for the dean's list, a student must have completed at least four courses and have an academic average of 3.6 based on a 4.0 scale for the semester.
