Find out what's happening in Silver Springfor free with the latest updates from Patch.

Got stuff to sell or are you itching to entertain? After a great trial run, the Flower Avenue Holiday Market returns as the Flower Avenue Market on April 7 -- located on the same spot at 8809 Flower Avenue. We'll run every Saturday through the end of the year and we may add Sundays soon.

You can find more info at www.floweravenuemarket.com but here are some things we're looking for:

  1. Professional vendors and private individuals with great stuff to sell.
Come out one Saturday or a bunch -- it's up to you.

  2. Any kind of entertainer who would like to perform in exchange for tips,
sales of their work, promotion, etc. Looking for singers, dancers, bands,
street performers -- whatever talent you have.

  3. Nonprofits that would like a free space to promote themselves.

We will again be partnering with Impact Silver Spring, raising a little money for it, and doing all kinds of social good.

NEW PARKING FOR SOUTH SILVER SPRING NOW OPEN!

A parking garage, located below the new Galaxy Apartments in Silver Spring, at 8025 13th St., brings a total of 368 parking spaces to the area -- 160 of which are available for public parking, while 208 are set aside for Galaxy residents.

The garage is part of a public-private partnership that created a 195-unit, five-story apartment building with 82 affordable units and an underground parking garage on the site of a former county surface parking lot.

Rates at the new garage, known as Garage 16, will be 75 cents an hour for short-term parking of four hours or less and 60 cents an hour for long-term parking of more than four hours. Parkers also have the option of using a Parking Convenience Sticker (allowing unlimited parking on any all-day meter in Silver Spring), which costs $113 a month, or a Daily Parking Permit for $7.20 a day.

ART HOP TAKOMA:

From our friend in Takoma Park: On Saturday and Sunday, March 24th and 25th, Main Street Takoma’s annual Art Hop will once again transform Old Takoma’s main street into a neighborhood arts district.

This year’s event will showcase a variety of art including photography, jewelry and wearable art, sculpture, installations, and a plethora of collage and mixed media works from more than 30 artists in shops throughout Old Town, The Junction and Takoma DC. We have more street music and artist demonstrations planned this year. Enjoy a day or the entire weekend, but don’t miss Art Hop and the chance to see a sampling of local art like you’ve never seen before... Much more info HERE.
