Silver Spring Substitute Teacher Charged With Sexual Abuse
Montgomery County Police say a substitute teacher from Columbia is accused of inappropriately touching an elementary school student.

SILVER SPRING, MD — A substitute teacher has been arrested after being accused of inappropriately touching a student at Clovery Elementary School in Silver Spring, Montgomery County Police say.
Steven Katz, 59, of Columbia is charged with sexual abuse of a minor and fourth-degree sexual offense. Police say that sometime after school on March 8, the student told his parent that his substitute teacher had touched him in a way that made him feel uncomfortable. According to police, the student identified the teacher as Katz.
The parent notified school officials who went to the police. Detectives interviewed the student and the teacher.

Police said that during his interview, Katz "made admissions relating to inappropriately touching the student."
"Detectives are requesting that parents of juveniles who may have had contact with Steven Katz to talk to their children about any interaction with Katz and contact SVID detectives at 240-773-5400 if they believe their child was victimized," police said in a news release.
