SILVER SPRING, MD — Crisfield Seafood, a restaurant that opened its doors in Montgomery County nearly 80 years ago, will close permanently later this month, the business said on social media.
In a post shared Wednesday on Facebook, a spokesperson for Crisfield Seafood said the restaurant will close on Dec. 22.
“Our time has come. The Landis Family would like to express our thanks and gratitude to all of our customers, fellow teammates, and friends. A special thanks to the myriad of sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, and cousins, of our extended family who helped us build a DMV legacy," the post read. "We have always felt that the restaurant was just another room in our house. We have been proud to welcome you to our home for nearly 80 years."

Nearly 30 years ago, The Washington Post said the eatery deserved to be called "a Maryland institution."
"After all, it was serving stuffed shrimp and crab imperial when Harry Truman was in the White House, when cars still had fenders and when most folks considered squid just another form of bait," the Post wrote.
