Suspect Arrested In Fatal Shooting Of Silver Spring Man

SILVER SPRING, MD — Authorities have arrested a Prince George’s County man in connection with a fatal March shooting in Silver Spring.

Douglas David Lacey, 23, was arrested Friday and charged with first-degree murder in the death of 23-year-old Jonah Kimindo Mutua of Silver Spring, according to Montgomery County police.

Mutua was killed on March 8 in the 2700 block of Fairdale Terrace. Police were called to a shooting about 11:04 a.m. and found Mutua suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.

Despite lifesaving efforts by a good Samaritan, first responding officers and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services personnel, Mutua was pronounced dead at the scene, a police news release said.

An autopsy conducted by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore ruled the manner of death was a homicide.

Following an investigation, authorities later linked Lacey to the shooting, police said. A warrant was issued for his arrest on Wednesday.

Lacey was taken to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit, where he is awaiting a bond hearing.
