Trash Collection Disruption, WSSC Hearing, Rally for 10 Mile Creek
Here's what's happening in Silver Spring on Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2013.

Here are five things to know on Tuesday in Silver Spring:
1.) Temperatures will soar into the 90s on Tuesday and Wednesday, but will slip back into the 70s for the weekend, The Weather Channel reports.
2.) Trash collection in parts of Silver Spring was disrupted Monday due to a strike by Potomac Disposal workers protesting against an alleged immigration enforcement threat. The strike continues Tuesday, Patch reported.
3.) The first of two public hearings held by the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission on its proposed Capital Improvements Program for fiscal years 2015 to 2012 is Tuesday evening. The six–year CIP proposes planning, design and construction expenditures for major water and sewer projects. Tuesday's hearing starts at 7:30 p.m. at 100 Maryland Ave., Rockville, in the seventh floor Council Hearing Room. The second hearing will be held on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at 1400 McCormick Dr., Largo, room 308.
To speak at one of the hearings, call the WSSC Budget Group at 301-206-8110 to get your name on the list of speakers. Or, submit comments in writing by noon on Sept. 23 to the WSSC Budget Group (14501 Sweitzer Ln., Laurel, MD 20707) or email comments to budgetgroup@wsscwater.com.
4.) Remember those water restrictions last March? WSSC officials explained to a county council committee on Monday how a series of conditions combined to make a 60-inch water main fail in Chevy Chase on March 18, 2013, leading to a water loss of 60 million gallons of water and water restrictions across two counties.
5.) A rally to "Save 10 Mile Creek" takes place on Tuesday, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. in Royce Hanson Park (adjacent to 8787 Georgia Ave., Silver Spring), before the county planning board holds its final public hearing on the Ten Mile Creek Limited Master Plan Amendment. Read why rally participants are protesting the plan amendment.
