SILVER SPRING, MD — As residents get ready to celebrate Independence Day with fireworks, barbecues and travel, various closures and schedule changes are planned for services around Silver Spring.
The Independence Day holiday falls on Tuesday, July 4, which means some government offices and services will be closed and some schedules changed.
A number of holiday activities have been planned to celebrate Independence Day, including parades and fireworks displays. Patch has compiled information about some of the events going on around Silver Spring.

Here are the openings and closings to know for the Fourth of July in Silver Spring:
Montgomery County Public Schools: Students are on summer break, but all schools and offices are closed on July 4.

MC 311: Closed.
State offices and courts: Closed.
Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration offices and Vehicle Emissions Inspection Program stations: Closed.
Montgomery County Libraries: Closed.
Alcohol Beverage Services (ABS) in Montgomery County: All stores will be open 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
Montgomery County Department of Permitting Services — All offices, including the customer service lobby, will be closed on July 4.
Montgomery County-operated COVID-19 Vaccination and Testing Clinics: Closed.
Montgomery County Ride On: Will operate on a Saturday schedule.
Ride On extRa and Flex: Not in service.
Flash: Will operate on a weekend schedule (Orange Line only). The Blue Route, usually open on weekdays, will not be in service.
MARC Train and Commuter Bus: Saturday service on the Penn Line only. No Camden or Brunswick Line service.
TRiPS Silver Spring commuter store: Closed.
TRiPS Mobile Commuter Store: Closed.
Metrorail: Will operate on a Sunday Holiday schedule, with trains running from 7 a.m. to a time TBD
Metrobus: — Will operate on a Sunday schedule.
Montgomery County parking at public garages, lots, curbside meters: Free.
Montgomery County-provided trash and recycling are on a regular schedule on Monday, July 3. There will be no trash and recycling collections on Tuesday, July 4. Collections will slide one day throughout the rest of the week, with the last pickup on Saturday, July 8.
Shady Grove Transfer Station and Recycling Center: Closed.
Aquatic Centers - County outdoor aquatic facilities will be open 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 3-6 p.m. Indoor aquatic facilities will close at 6 p.m.
Montgomery Community recreation and senior centers: Closed.
