Woman Killed While Walking On Columbia Pike: Police

An elderly woman was struck and killed while walking on Columbia Pike, police said.

WHITE OAK, MD — An elderly woman was struck and killed while walking on Columbia Pike Thursday evening.

Elaine Rowena Allen, 71, of an unconfirmed address, was hit at about 6:40 p.m. on Columbia Pike (Route 29) at Hillwood Drive. First responders located Allen dead in the roadway, police said.

Investigation reveals that a Washington, DC man was driving a white, 2010 Ford E250 van south on Columbia Pike. For reasons still under investigation, the van collided with Allen.

The driver remained at the scene, police said. Detectives continue to investigate the circumstances of the collision, including whether Allen may have been struck by an additional vehicle(s).
