22 Animals And Plants Added To MA Endangered Species List

A new update to Massachusetts' endangered species list has several species of plants, bats, bees and butterflies.

MASSACHUSETTS - A new lineup of animals and plants have been added to the state's endangered species list.

According to a statement put out by the Massachusetts Division of Fisheries and Wildlife, a review and public comment led to the update.

The following animals and plants now have updated designations:

Mammals

  • Eastern red bat, Lasiurus borealis, special concern
  • Hoary bat, Lasiurus cinereus, special concern
  • Silver-haired bat, Lasionycteris noctivagans, special concern

Butterflies and moths

  • Golden borer moth, Papaipema cerina, endangered
  • Acadian hairstreak butterfly, Satyrium acadica, threatened

Bees

  • Parnassia miner bee, Andrena parnassiae, threatened
  • Macropis cuckoo bee, Epeoloides pilosulus, threatened

Plants

  • Bog sedge, Carex exilis, threatened
  • Willdenow's sedge, Carex willdenowii, endangered
  • Split-leaved hawthorn, Crateaegus schizophylla, endangered
  • Appalachian bristle-fern, Crepidomanes intricatum, special concern
  • Pine barrens flatsedge, Cyperus retrorsus, special concern
  • Frog orchid, Dactylorhiza viridis, endangered
  • Velvet rosette-grass, Dichanthelium scoparium, endangered
  • Showy orchid, Galearis spectabilis, threatened
  • Loesel's wide-lipped orchid, Liparis loeselii, threatened
