MASSACHUSETTS — All of Massachusetts is under a red flag warning Tuesday, which means an increased risk of fires due to weather conditions.

The red flag warning will be in effect from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday for all parts of the state. It'll be a sunny day with temperatures reaching into the low 70s. But wind gusts up to 30 mph and relative humidity below 25 percent will make good conditions for fires to start, especially outdoors.

"A red flag warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now, or will shortly. Any fires that start may spread rapidly and become difficult to extinguish," the weather service said.

Tuesday's warning follows a similar alert on Friday — although that red flag warning did not include Cape Cod. Today's warning also includes all of Rhode Island and Connecticut and some parts of southern Vermont.

Massachusetts is still in the midst of open burning season, a period between Jan. 15 and May 1 when residents in all but 22 highly populated communities can burn brush and other organic materials outdoors during daytime hours. Local fire departments issue permits for burning, but those will likely be rescinded Tuesday during the red flag warning period.
