MASSACHUSETTS — In the days leading up to Tropical Storm Henri's arrival in Massachusetts, weather forecasters warned eastern Massachusetts would see two to four inches of rain while the central and western parts of the state were told to expect up to eight inches of rainfall.

The weather forecasters were wrong, according to unofficial rainfall totals for several towns and cities in Massachusetts released Monday morning by the National Weather Service. The highest total reported was 2.05 inches in Leominster; none of the other totals submitted exceeded two inches.

Henri's wind speeds also fell below forecasts, which had predicted peak gusts of 70 mph. The peak gust recorded Sunday was 55 m.p.h. in Falmouth.

More rain from Henri, however, is on the way, and a flood watch remains in effect for central and western Massachusetts. The current forecast calls for 0.5 to two inches of additional rain in most parts of eastern and central Massachusetts Monday, except for Cape Cod, where rainfall totals will be less than 0.5 inches. Rain will start mid- to late afternoon in Worcester and begin in the late afternoon and early evening hours in eastern Massachusetts.

We finally bid Henri "au revoir" for good on Tuesday. Expect temperatures near 90 and lots of humidity through Wednesday.
