MA Man Went Missing On Mt. Monadnock After Companions Left Him

The 20-year-old was left behind when he began "struggling with the pace of his companions."

NORTH EASTON, MA — A 22-year-old North Easton man was missing for several hours on July 4 after getting left behind by his hiking companions on Mt. Monadnock, according to New Hampshire authorities.

Monadnock Park Rangers responded to near the White Dot and White Cross trails around 5:30 p.m. Thursday to begin their search. The man's hiking companions said they lost sight of him when he began struggling to keep up with their pace.

But when rangers called New Hampshire Fish and Game Conservation Officers for help, the missing hiker showed up at the state park headquarters.

"New Hampshire Fish and Game urges hikers to be prepared and responsible for their own safety. A cardinal rule of hiking is do not hike alone and never leave behind a hiking companion, especially if they are struggling," fish and game said in a news release.
