MA Powerball Players Hope To Get Back On Top 10 List

Saturday night's drawing is $523 million, the 10th-richest Powerball prize in history.

BOSTON — Massachusetts residents are hoping to get back in one of the best Top 10 lists in America.

The Powerball drawing for Sat., Sept. 25, is up to an estimated $523 million, with a cash option of an estimated $379 million.

It's already the 10th-richest Powerball prize of all-time, and the highest since Jan. 20's jackpot of $731.1 million.

In 2017, Mavis Wanczyk of Springfield made history in winning the $758.7 million jackpot — the third-highest prize ever and most ever won on a single ticket. (The lottery initially said the winning ticket was bought at a Watertown convenience store before saying it was actually in Chicopee.)

Powerball tickets cost $2 and can be purchased until 9:50 p.m. Saturday at Mass Lottery retailers. The drawing is 10:59 p.m.

"When playing Powerball and other lottery games, we encourage people to keep the experience enjoyable by playing responsibly and within their means," Executive Director of the Massachusetts State Lottery Michael Sweeney said. "We also remind people to follow health and safety guidelines when visiting retail locations."
