Severe Storms Could Bring 'Heavy Downpours' To MA
The National Weather Service said afternoon storms could bring damaging winds and heavy rain to Massachusetts. Here's what to know.
MASSACHUSETTS — Though it isn't necessarily likely, the National Weather Service said possible severe storms could bring heavy rains and damaging winds to Massachusetts on Wednesday.
Officials said afternoon showers and thunderstorms are in the forecast north and west of the I-95 corridor in Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island from about 2 to 10 p.m.

"Storms are expected to produce heavy downpours and will have the potential to produce strong downdrafts capable of producing damaging wind gusts at the surface," officials said.
"Thunderstorm coverage will be isolated to scattered, fading after sunset. Heavy downpours could also lead to urban flash flooding in poor drainage areas," they added.

Still, those chances are just that.
The National Weather Service risk rating is a scale from 0-5, and today's severe weather risk meter sits squarely at a 1.
There is no risk for severe weather along much of the coastline southeast of Boston, ranging from Plymouth to Cape Cod.
Yesterday's air quality alert has also dissipated.
