MASSACHUSETTS — Now that the fireworks are dying down, it's time to look ahead to what's in store for the rest of July — and heat and wet weather may be it, according to long-range forecasts.

The National Weather Service's Climate Prediction Center recently released long-range outlooks for July. Massachusetts has a 50 to 60 percent chance of higher-than-usual temperatures, and up to a 40 percent chance of more rain than usual.

On July 4, the Climate Prediction Center released shorter term outlooks for the next two weeks, and it matches almost exactly with the month-long outlook.

A little wet weather could be helpful for some parts of the state. The U.S. Drought Monitor says parts of Essex, Hampshire, Hampden, Franklin and Berkshire counties are all "abnormally dry" at the moment, which is the lowest level of drought hazard.

For this weekend, expect a rainy Saturday and dry Sunday with highs near 90 heading into the work week.
