Arlington Confirms 4 More Deaths From Coronavirus
The town's case count dropped for the first time Tuesday, but the town said this is likely due to a reporting error.
ARLINGTON, MA — The town has confirmed four more deaths due to the coronavirus, bringing the death toll to 17. As of Wednesday, April 23, there were 179 confirmed cases of the coronavirus in Arlington.
Notably, this week was the first time the town's case count dropped, as it reported 173 positive cases on Tuesday after reporting 174 on Monday. This may be the result of a move of residence or incorrect information at initial testing, the town said.
Gov. Baker announced Tuesday that the state is extending the closure of all public and private schools through the end of the school year, and the closure of all non-emergency child care programs until June 29.

Wear a Mask in Public
The CDC reports that recent studies show COVID-19 can be transmitted to others by those who do not show symptoms (asymptomatic). The CDC recommends wearing cloth face coverings (fabric mask) in public settings where other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain (e.g., grocery stores and pharmacies). It is advised you wear a mask when running or biking, especially on the bike path, parks and in areas where you come in contact with others. Learn how to make your own fabric mask.
Peirce Field and Arlington playgrounds are still closed
Do not congregate in parks and on bike path.
Arlington Police continue to field complaints of people on Peirce field (behind Arlington High School). The field is closed to all use and police will take notice. While on the bike path or in a park, do not congregate and be sure to keep 6' away from others. It is advised you wear a mask when running or biking, especially on the bike path, parks, and in areas where you come in contact with others.
Off-Leash Dog Regulations Reminders
Thorndike Dog Park remains closed.
APD is receiving increased complaints of dogs being off-leash outside of allowable hours, plus running on baseball diamonds. Off-leash hours are between 6:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. and dogs are to be kept off baseball diamonds at all times. Dogs can easily damage these playing fields.
Please be advised that any resident with a dog that is off leash in an unapproved location and/or time can be cited. Citations are also given for failing to clean up after your dog. For failing to do so, there is a $75 fine for the first offense with increased fines for subsequent offenses. A list of these fines may be viewed at arlingtonma.gov/animalcontrol.
