“This funding is essential for the Town to be able to complete the design and construction documents for this high-priority safety project,” Town Manager Sandy Pooler said in a statement. “We appreciate the assistance of the Commonwealth through the MassWorks Infrastructure Program to make this project a reality. With the additional growth in the area around Mass Ave/Appleton Street, including the new development at 1165R Mass Ave, it is critical that this section of Mass Ave serve all users safely and improve multi-modal connections so people have options for how they get around Arlington.”
In spring 2022 Arlington hired Stantec to design, engineer, and conduct public engagement for the Mass Ave/Appleton Street Safety & Accessibility Corridor Project, in response to the fatal vehicle crash that killed Charlie Proctor in 2020.
