ICYMI: Police Seeking Information Regarding Vandalism Incident

A public art display in Spy Pond Park was defaced with offensive and hurtful words during the month of May, police said

Arlington Police are seeking the public’s help regarding a public art display in Spy Pond Park which was the object of a vandalism incident during the month of May.

Arlington Police said the public art display was defaced earlier this year “with offensive and hurtful words regarding the Indian community” on Wednesday, May 20. Additionally, APD said it considers this incident of vandalism “to be a hate crime”.

According to United States Census Bureau data, 16.7 percent of the population in the Town of Arlington are racial minorities.

Arlington Town Bylaws Title II, Article 9, established a Human Rights Commission, stating its intent is to “bring about the elimination of prejudice, intolerance, bigotry, unlawful discrimination, threats, coercion or intimidation based upon an individual’s race, color, religious views, national origin, gender, citizenship, age, ancestry, family/marital status, sexual orientation, disability, source of income, or military status, and the disorder occasioned thereby.”
