• North firefighter Sam Gutwill graduates from Mass Firefighting Academy (northstarreporter.com) — A North Attleborough firefighter who serves just up the road from Attleboro has completed the rigorous 50-day Career Recruit Firefighting Training Program at the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy in Bridgewater. Sam Gutwill’s new Firefighter I/II and HazMat certifications, plus plans for paramedic school, mean a better-trained first responder serving the immediate Attleboro area.
   

• Harvard to require ID for building access on heels of Brown University shooting (masslive.com) — Attleboro residents are being told there’s no immediate danger even as investigators may come through the city and nearby Plainville following the Brown University campus shooting. Police say leads have brought law enforcement into North Attleborough and possibly Attleboro, but stress there’s no known threat locally. Meanwhile, Harvard is tightening building access during winter break as a precaution.
   

• Portsmouth Cheetah Running Club has 4 All-Americans at national race (seacoastonline.com) — Young runners from the Portsmouth Cheetah Running Club earned four All-American finishes at the USATF National Junior Olympic Cross Country Championships after first proving themselves at the New England Championships held in Attleboro. Their strong performances in multiple age groups spotlight Attleboro’s role as a regional hub for youth cross-country competition.
