Police Search For Attleboro Fatal Crash Suspect

ATTLEBORO, MA — Police are still searching for a vehicle of interest in connection with last week's fatal hit-and-run involving a pedestrian. The victim has been identified as 50-year-old John E. Gauthier, whom police believe to be homeless with ties to Rhode Island. Police have released a surveillance photo of the suspect vehicle, described as a which Cadillac Escalade SUV.

The person who drove the vehicle that struck Gauthier is believed to be a white woman approximately 5 feet, four inches tall and weighing about 160 pounds, according to police. The vehicle should have front-end damage, and is likely missing a headlight, police say.

The accident was reported around 9:45 p.m. Monday, Sept. 16, on Interstate 95 South just before Exit 1 in Attleboro, according to the Massachusetts State Police. Police have previously said that the victim, later identified as Gauthier, was pronounced dead on the scene.

This incident was one of two fatal vehicle accidents reported on I-95 around the same time on Sept. 16. Another accident occurred at Exit 5 North, where a vehicle left the roadway and rolled into the woods, causing one person in the vehicle to die.
