Bedford High School is closed until March 27 after a student's parents tested presumptive positive for the new coronavirus.

BEDFORD, MA — Bedford High School is closed Thursday, March 12, after a student who had a possible exposure to the new coronavirus began showing symptoms of the virus while outside of school.

According to a press release from a group of superintendents in Middlesex County, the school will remain closed until at least March 27.

Officials later learned the student's mother also received a presumptive positive test for the virus.

According to an earlier letter from Sills, the student was placed under isolation with his or her parents and later began showing symptoms consistent with COVID-19.

According to Sills' letter, the student's symptoms were not present during school last week but that "...overt, impactful, and pervasive symptoms consistent with the illness occurred outside of the school environment."

The school has also cancelled, postponed or otherwise reconfigured all public meetings, cancelled EdCamp and sports banquets and postponed the Tenacity Challenge.

Regular COVID-19 updates from the school are available online.
