- Beginning in early 2022, the Town of Bedford will be partnering with the UTEC Mattress Recycling program to provide mattress and box spring recycling for residents. Register online for a pickup at https://utec-mattress.org/schedule/. Pickups will generally be offered on Mondays, and the service will be provided at no cost to residents at least through June. By participating in this program, waste will be diverted from the waste stream (75% of the components of a mattress can be recycled!), and the Town will come into compliance with the statewide mattress recycling mandate that is going into effect on November 1, 2022. Republic Services will no longer collect mattresses and box springs at the curb. Not eligible for pickup: infant sleeping pads, air mattresses, water beds, or futons.
- As of January 1st, 2022 batteries, bulbs, and mercury item drop off is moving to the Compost Center from its previous location in the lobby of the DPW building. Acceptable items include mercury containing items (e.g. thermometers, thermostats, barometers, fluorescent lamps), compact fluorescent bulbs, and batteries (button batteries, lithium, Ni-Cd, Ni-MH, and lead-acid). Please note that alkaline batteries are non-hazardous and can be disposed of in the regular trash.
- Christmas Tree collection will occur during the week of January 10, 2022
Please call the DPW at 781-275-7605, ext. 4261 with any questions.
