Boston Medical Center Employees Protesting Melania Trump's Visit

More than 200 Boston Medical Center employees are protesting Melania Trump's Wednesday visit to a hospital program that treats babies who are born addicted to opioids, according to The Boston Globe. The first lady's visit is to highlight the program and will be followed by a tour of the pediatric unit, the White House said.

Protest organizers told the Globe they don't want to send the wrong message to patients and potential patients — particularly immigrants. Her husband's administration has been involved with several controversial immigration policies in the last few years.

Some 250 employees are planning a demonstration outside the hospital Wednesday morning, according to the Globe.

Trump is touring the hospital’s CALM program — Cuddling Assists in Lowering Maternal and Infant Stress. The trip is part of her "Be Best" program.

"Mrs. Trump will receive a briefing from the Boston Medical Center Staff on the status of these programs," the White House said. "Following the briefing, Mrs. Trump will tour Boston Medical Center’s Pediatric Unit to see first-hand how these programs are implemented and meet with the children and families who have been successfully treated."
