Boston Nets New Funds to Fight Gun Violence
Boston Mayor Marty Walsh has secured new funds to fight gun violence. Statistics show Massachusetts gun deaths are low overall.
Boston, MA - Mayor Marty Walsh and Boston Police Commissioner William Evans emerged from the third New England Regional Gun Violence Meeting Wednesday with $25,000 in hand to explore new ways to diminish gun violence.
The dollars come from the Boston Foundation, and allow city law enforcement to partner with the non-profit Arms With Ethics to lead a multi-city pilot program in the region. The program is meant to develop law enforcement-led projects focused on preventing the illegal flow and illegal use of guns, according to a press release from the mayor's office.
Massachusetts, overall, had the lowest rate of shooting fatalities in the country as of 2014, according to numbers from the Centers for Disease Control. It's also considered to have some of the toughest gun laws in the country.

The goal of the pilot projects is to work regionally, to "translate the regional information-sharing and collaboration generated by the New England Regional Gun Summit into immediate, concrete action," according to the press release.
