BOSTON — If the Boston Common looks a bit more youthful than it normally does during the school day hours this week, that's by design. The Boston Public Schools Department of Visual and Performing Arts is kicking off its three-day Citywide Arts Festival, which features musical, dancing, and theatrical performances from more than 1,100 students at the Boston Common Parkman Bandstand.

This year's festival comes as the district marks the 10th year of its Arts Expansion initiative, which has expanded arts to more than 17,000 students district-wide. Interim Superintendent Laura Perille will be at the opening event. This is the seventh year of the festival.

From 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday the Boston Common will be filled with school children showing off their talent at the Parkman Bandstand at Boston Common. Interim Superintendent Laura Perille will be at the opening event, as will, of course, plenty of teachers.
