Boston Weather: Winter Storm Warning in Effect, Expect Up to 8 Inches

Snow will keep falling into the evening commute in Boston, and the city is now on track for up to eight inches of accumulation.

Boston, MA - For those who put their shovels and scrapers away for the winter, best get them back out.

Snow is still coming down in Boston Monday, and potential sleet and freezing rain mean roads will be slick for the evening commute.

The National Weather Service has declared a Winter Storm Warning for the city, and now predicts Boston could see up to eight inches of snow.

Although school was in session during the day, Boston Public Schools has cancelled after-school athletic activities. Other after-school programs will be cancelled at instructors' discretion, according to BPS' website.

Meanwhile, Boston Mayor Marty Walsh said the city's public works department is deploying an additional 100 pieces of equipment to help clear roads for the evening commute.

According to the National Weather Service, he biggest hazard is on the roads, particularly in the I-95 corridor where there's a chance of sleet mixing in. As the sun goes down, more and more snow will stick the roadways, the NWS notes, particularly in the Boston-Providence corridor where the most snow is falling.

As the Massachusetts Police Department has repeatedly posted on social media, this means you should take it slow on the drive home tonight.
