Red Sox legend David Ortiz spoke out Tuesday about a court battle between him and the mother of his 12-year-old son. Ortiz was hit with a restraining order in the Dominican Republic by his former partner, who said he "intimidated and threatened her."

The woman filed a complaint in May, claiming Ortiz violated a domestic violence law, according to to Liston Diario. The order says Ortiz must refrain from annoying, intimidating or threatening the mother of his son, who lives in the Dominican Republic.

In Ortiz's statement, he called the claims "baseless" and asked for privacy as he and his family work to a "reasonable financial settlement."

The statement reads in part:

"I regret that [his son's] mother has chosen to use the courts to assert a baseless claim against me in the form of a restraining order. I have not seen her in person for over a year and since then, communication between us has overwhelmingly been limited to texts," he wrote. "I would ask for privacy going forward for my family, as we work in good faith to come to a reasonable financial settlement."

Ortiz also went on a TV interview in the Dominican Republic on Tuesday and said, tearing up, the situation "breaks my soul."
