Judge Green-Lights Whitey Bulger Auction for Victims' Families
The possessions of Boston gangster James "Whitey" Bulger will be auctioned off, with proceeds going to victims' families.

Boston, MA - A judge gave the go-ahead Monday to auction off the assets of James "Whitey" Bulger as restitution to families of victims of the notorious Boston gangster.
The auction will be held June 24-26 at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center.
“The U.S. Marshals Service will execute the order signed by Judge Casper. Our goal is to maximize the proceeds of the auction to compensate the victims of Bulger’s brutal crimes,” U.S. Marshal John Gibbons said in a press release.

The proceeds will be divided among the families of Bulger's murder and extortion victims. That includes items found in an apartment where Bulger was holed up in Santa Monica, Calif., from a a replica of a 1986 Stanley Cup championship ring to electronic, as well as other property now in the government's possession.
The auction will be open to the public and the items will be available simultaneously through an online auction. A list of auction items will be made available at a later date.

After 16 years on the run, authorities located Bulger in Santa Monica, Calif., in 2011. In 2013, he was convicted of numerous crimes, including a role in 11 murders.
