The first nor'easter of the season will hit Massachusetts with more than 8 inches of rain in some places in what forecasters say will be a multi-day storm. The nor'easter is expected to hit southeastern Massachusetts and Cape Cod the hardest, potentially causing power outages and flooding. Rain and wind will begin building Wednesday, intensify at night, peak Thursday, and taper off Friday.

Heavy rain will drench the state Wednesday night through Thursday night, dumping 3-6 inches on much of the state and 6-8 inches in southeastern Massachusetts and on Cape Cod. Flooding, particularly along the coast, is a threat. Waves could hit 20 feet.

Wind gusts are expected to max out at 30-50 mph and may hit upward of 60 mph south of Boston. The high winds will start developing Wednesday and hit a dangerous peak Thursday before calming down Friday, the National Weather Service said.
