MA Weather: Strengthening Storm Means Rainy, Dreary Week Ahead

The transition to fall has been rather pleasant, but that could change this week. Rain is in the forecast every day this week — except perhaps Tuesday — due to a strengthening coastal storm.

"A winter storm taking shape across the [northern] U.S. while an ocean storm wobbles offshore of the [Southern] New England coastline for the late week period," the National Weather Service said.

Forecasters are looking at two weather systems converging and stalling over the Atlantic, sort of how the infamous "Perfect Storm" did.

"There are some similarities to the Halloween Storm, otherwise known as the 'Perfect Storm' from 1991, but on a much smaller and less-intense scale," AccuWeather senior meteorologist Alex Sosnowski said.

The coast will be under a hazardous weather outlook.

Expect "lashing easterly winds and rain, building waves" and the potential for flooding and power outages, the NWS said. The ocean storm's biggest impacts will be felt along the coast, including the Cape and Islands.

The rain started Monday with scattered showers and some evening downpours.

There will be a lull in the rain Tuesday, but the wet weather will continue after that. There is going to be rain every day from Wednesday through Saturday.
