Mayor Unveils 2016 Boston Marathon Banner, 'One Boston Day' 2016

Boston Mayor Marty Walsh announced the city's second annual One Boston Day celebration as he helped unveil its 2016 Boston Marathon banners.

Boston, MA - This year's Boston Marathon banner theme represent the runners, the race and the city itself, the mayor said as he unveiled the 2016 design Friday.

The banners each include a word that drives home the theme -- "inspired," "pride," "heart," "soul" -- as well as images of the runners that embody them. They also include this year's social media hashtag, "#RunBold."

Boston's iconic marathon has taken on deeper meaning since the 2013 bombing, something Mayor Marty Walsh acknowledged in his remarks.

"After that very sad day on April 15, we learned what endurance means," he said. "Since then, we have cherished and grown from that experience."

Expect to see those banners up all over the city between now and this year's race, which is slated for Mon., April 18.

Also at the event Friday, Walsh announced the city's second annual "One Boston Day" on April 15, a day to commemorate all the good done despite the horrors of that day and, in Walsh's words, "reflect on the spirit and resilience of the people of Boston that was exemplified in the response to the loss and the tragedies."

The informal holiday encourages random acts of kindness and spreading goodwill, in addition to citywide activities meant to encourage people to give back to the community.

The city has launched a website with details at onebostonday.org.
