23 People Hospitalized After 2 MBTA Trolleys Collide In Boston

According to the Boston Fire Department, the crash happened in front of Agganis Arena.

BOSTON, MA — Twenty-three people were transported to nearby hospitals after two trolleys in Boston collided Friday evening, according to the Boston Fire Department.

Firefighters said the injuries did not appear to be life threatening.

The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority confirmed that the collision happened near Babcock Street in front of Agganis Arena. Drivers were asked to avoid the area.

"The train was stopped at the light when it suddenly jerked forward," MBTA passenger Brian Sirman, who was on one of the trains, told WCVB-TV. "It felt like the worst amusement park ride that you could imagine, just jerking you forward."

Due to the crash, Green Line B Branch trains were suspended between Packard's Corner and Kenmore with eastbound trains ending at Packard's Corner. Riders were told to use Route 57 for service between Packard's Corner and Kenmore.

Shuttle buses replaced B Branch trains between Kenmore and Washington Street, MBTA said.

It was not immediately known the extent of the injuries of the people transported to nearby hospitals.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
