Slideshow: TD Garden Owners' Pitch Picked to Activate City Hall Plaza
Ferris wheel, ice-skating, dining and an urban "beach" could be coming to the heart of Boston.
Boston, MA - Mayor Martin J. Walsh's administration has tapped TD Garden's owners to activate the uninviting stretch of brick that is City Hall Plaza.
The Boston Calling music festival successfully invigorated the space last year, but Walsh wants a permanent solution. Out of three conceptual pitches, the mayor's office selected Buffalo, NY-based Delaware North Cos., which also operates New York City's iconic Rockefeller Center skating rink (among numerous other properties from national parks to airports).
Year-round programming suggested in its initial proposal includes:

- ice skating path in winter
- "beach" set up for the summer
- "iconic observation wheel" (ferris wheel)
- restaurant structure with a liquor license to be run by Delaware North's Patina Restaurant Group
