Stanley Cup Finals: Arthur Fiedler Statue Gets Bruins Helmet
On the same day as Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final, an oversized Bruins helmet appeared on a familiar face on the Esplanade.

BOSTON — It's Bruins season and just about everyone is sporting Boston Bruins gear — from babies to planes to statues. Yesterday, on the same day as Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final, an oversized Bruins helmet appeared on a familiar face on the Esplanade.
Just ahead of Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final against the St. Louis Blues, the Esplanade Association outfitted the Arthur Fiedler memorial with a 17-foot-wide Bruins helmet.
The late Boston Pops conductor died in 1979 and the memorial was dedicated in 1984 in a space not far from the hatch shell, where the Pops is known for hosting outdoor concerts. Last October, the bust was outfitted with a Boston Beanie ahead of some key Sox games. This go-round, he's giving the Bruins some love.

It “involved using five different layers of material to ensure the beloved Fiedler sculpture was protected and the irregularly shaped hockey helmet would stay snugly in place on the monument,” the association said in a statement to WBZ.
The Boston Bruins have won the Stanley Cup six times, while the St. Louis Blues are the oldest NHL team to have gone but not won the championship. The last time the two teams met in the Stanley Cup Final was in 1970.

Still, after 11 days off, avid sports fans were worried it might take a while for the Bruins to get their legs back. They didn't need to. The Bruins won 4-2 Monday night.
This is the Bruins seventh time at the Stanley Cup.
